Imam Omar Tawil, a prominent figure at the Tempe Mosque in Phoenix, Arizona, claims to be “just as American as anyone else.” However, his social media activity and affiliations paint a drastically different picture. Tawil frequently posts on X (@OTawil89), where he glorifies Hamas, spreads antisemitic messages, and refers to terrorist operatives as “freedom fighters” or “the resistance.” Rather than condemning acts of terror, he praises them—calling Israeli hostages “settler prisoners” and labeling the Hamas-led violence as justified resistance.
Though he presents himself as a religious leader and educator, Tawil’s messages consistently undermine the very values that American society is built on—freedom, tolerance, and peace. His position allows him to influence followers both at the mosque and on college campuses, where his radical ideology is disguised as advocacy for Palestinian rights.
Dangerous Ties and Public Hypocrisy
Tawil’s connections go beyond rhetoric. He has clear associations with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a group that has long faced allegations of ties to Hamas and other terror-linked networks. Although CAIR operates legally in the United States, its past relationships with extremist organizations have raised serious national security concerns.
By aligning himself with CAIR and echoing its political messaging, Tawil helps push a dangerous agenda under the guise of community representation. This calculated effort to appear as a peaceful, civic-minded imam—while supporting organizations known for violence—makes him especially dangerous. He blends into the American fabric while promoting ideas fundamentally opposed to it.
